Choose the Right Acrylic Printing Method
Every acrylic project begins with the image, viewing environment, and final installation. Image Craft offers several production methods, allowing the acrylic, print construction, finish, and mounting system to be selected around the visual goal of the project.
Direct 1st surface printing
Ink is applied directly to the front, viewing side of the acrylic. This creates a crisp, immediate graphic finish and works well for signage, opaque acrylic, frosted materials, decorative panels, and specialty visual effects.
Direct 2nd surface printing
The image is reverse-printed on the back of clear acrylic and viewed through the sheet. The front remains smooth and unprinted, while the clear acrylic adds visible depth between the viewer and the printed image.
1st surface print mounting
A separately produced film, vinyl graphic, or compatible print media is applied to the front of the acrylic. This method supports applications where the graphic needs to sit directly on the viewing surface or where a particular material or finish is required.
2nd surface or face mounting
The face of a separately produced photographic print, fine-art print, or compatible film is bonded behind clear acrylic using a clear mounting system. The finished image is viewed through the sheet, creating a refined presentation suited to photography, fine art, corporate artwork, and premium interiors.
White ink can be applied as a full flood, selective layer, spot treatment, or part of a multilayer build to create solid color, preserve clear areas, and develop translucent effects. What is acrylic printing?

What is the difference between first-surface and second-surface acrylic printing?

Optional rigid backing, framing, floating subframes, and hanging hardware can be added to complete the display.
Can Image Craft print white ink and transparent effects?
Yes. Image Craft can produce full flood white, selective white, spot white, and multilayer white-ink treatments. White ink can make colors more opaque, preserve clear areas, support translucent effects, or improve readability on clear, frosted, black, and colored acrylic. Our prepress team prepares or reviews the required white-ink layers before production.
What acrylic materials and thicknesses are available?

What is the difference between non-glare and anti-reflective acrylic?
Non-glare acrylic uses a subtly textured surface to diffuse reflected light. This can reduce distracting glare, although the texture may slightly soften very fine detail depending on the construction. P99 is one available non-glare option.
Anti-reflective acrylic uses a specialty coating to reduce reflections while maintaining a clearer viewing surface. TruLife is an anti-reflective option designed for direct printing and face mounting. The right material depends on lighting, viewing distance, image detail, handling, production method, and budget.
How large can an acrylic print be?
Image Craft can direct print and mount acrylic panels up to 48 x 96 inches. Larger visual compositions can be designed as coordinated multi-panel systems, subject to the artwork, wall conditions, handling, shipping, and installation requirements.
Can acrylic be cut into custom shapes or finished with polished edges?
Yes. We can contour cut, route, drill, polish, flame polish, bevel, and finish acrylic according to the project.
Pieces smaller than approximately 6 inches, very tight inside corners, small holes, and intricate shapes require production review because routing and drilling tools create practical minimum feature sizes. Our team can recommend minor design adjustments that preserve the intended appearance while creating a reliable finished piece.
What mounting and display systems are available?
Options include architectural standoffs, tamper-resistant and edge-grip hardware, concealed mounts, Z-clips, French cleats, floating subframes, traditional framing, cable systems, rod systems, suspended displays, and custom-fabricated supports.

Can acrylic prints be used outdoors?
Yes, when the complete construction is specified for the environment. Outdoor performance depends on the acrylic grade, ink system, print orientation, mounting media, protective treatment, hardware, sun exposure, heat, moisture, wind, cleaning, and installation.
We review those conditions before recommending a construction. Warranty terms and expected service life depend on the selected materials, manufacturer coverage, installation conditions, and project environment.
Are acrylic prints archival or UV-protective?
Some specialty acrylic materials provide documented UV-filtering, anti-reflective, abrasion-resistant, or conservation-oriented performance. Those properties apply to the specified material and should not be treated as a blanket claim for every acrylic print.
Long-term image stability also depends on the print process, ink or photographic material, adhesive, backing, exposure, installation, and care.
