True Continuous-Tone Detail

RGB lasers expose light-sensitive photographic material directly, producing smooth gradations, crisp image detail, and clean transitions without a conventional halftone-dot pattern.

Professional Fuji Materials

Choose from Fujiflex, Fuji Matte, and Fuji Glossy materials to achieve the surface, reflectivity, and presentation best suited to your image and viewing environment.

Complete In-House Production

File review, color correction, proofing, laser exposure, photographic processing, mounting, lamination, acrylic face mounting, and custom framing are coordinated under one roof.

How Lambda Printing Produces Continuous-Tone Detail

Your digital image is prepared by our prepress team and exposed directly onto light-sensitive silver-halide photographic material using red, green, and blue lasers. The exposed material is then photographically processed in-house, creating a digital C-print with smooth tonal transitions and precise edge-to-edge detail.

Our Durst Lambda 130 supports 200 and 400 ppi continuous-tone output on photographic materials up to 50 inches wide. Each project can be proofed and color corrected before final production, giving photographers, artists, designers, and institutions greater control over the finished image. Fujiflex provides an exceptionally smooth, high-gloss polyester surface with strong color, clean whites, and sharp detail. Fuji Glossy offers a classic reflective photographic appearance, while Fuji Matte provides a softer, lower-sheen presentation. Fujifilm describes Fujiflex as a silver-halide material developed for large-format laser exposure and RA-4 photographic processing.

FAQs on Lambda Printing

What is Lambda Printing?

Lambda printing is a digital photographic process that uses red, green, and blue lasers to expose a digital image directly onto light-sensitive silver-halide photographic material. The exposed material is photographically processed to create a continuous-tone digital C-print.

A Lambda print is a type of digital C-print, also called a digital C-type or chromogenic photographic print. “Lambda” refers to the Durst laser imaging system used to expose the photographic material.

No. A Lambda uses RGB laser light to expose photographic material. The image is then developed through photographic chemistry rather than created by depositing ink or toner onto the surface.

Lambda printing uses laser exposure and photographic chemistry to produce an image on silver-halide photographic material. Giclée printing uses inkjet technology, typically with pigment inks, on compatible fine-art paper, photographic paper, or canvas.

Lambda is often selected for its continuous-tone photographic appearance and smooth surface options. Giclée printing offers a broader range of textured papers, cotton papers, and canvas materials.

Image Craft completes Lambda printing entirely in-house. Our prepress team and operators bring more than 20 years of experience to the process, supported by proofing, color correction, retouching, mounting, acrylic face mounting, framing, packaging, shipping, and installation capabilities.
